The Cost of "Freedom": I tried to leverage the ‘freedom’ I had. I’d brag about about not having to attend obligatory family dinners, not needing permission to hang out with certain people or go to certain places, exude thankfulness for not having overbearing parents or pressures.

I tried desperately to keep up the methods that had always served me in the past for gaining acceptance: I threw myself into my studies, I exercised like crazy, I tried desperately to fit in. But no matter what I did I could not find the attention and acceptance I craved. My attempts at gaining acceptance were failing me.
